Govt. Higher Secondary School, Vyasarpadi
The school had no library. Not a small one. None. We built a 500-book reading room and trained four teachers on how to run it. Within one academic year, reading comprehension scores across grades 6 through 8 went up 38%. The principal told us attendance on library days is now the highest of the week.
Govt. Middle School, Perambur
The school compound had a patch of dirt where children played during breaks. Our volunteers and a CSR partner built a regulation badminton court in six weeks. 120 students now train there weekly. Before, there was nowhere to play anything. Now three students have qualified for district-level tournaments.
Govt. High School, Kolathur
Attendance was stuck at 72%. The reasons were predictable: parents did not trust the school, children did not want to come. We ran a 12-week parent engagement programme. We invited parents in, showed them classrooms, let them talk to teachers. Attendance rose to 91% in one semester. Parents just needed to know they were welcome.
Accountability
Before we start any project, we document the current state. Attendance numbers, infrastructure condition, available facilities. This becomes the benchmark.
Every three months, our team visits the school with staff to check progress. We track what changed, what did not, and what needs adjustment.
At the end of each year, we compile everything into a report shared with every partner, volunteer, and stakeholder. If something did not work, we say so.
